Studio

Bowen Liu creates artistic furniture collections imbued with a sense of tranquility. Her design is often packed with thoughtful considerations and distilled to a minimal and clean appearance. Focus on intelligent simplicity and traditional crafts to produce collectible designs and functional art for contemporary living. Liu founded her studio in New York City in 2017. Her clients includes Louis Vuitton, Michelin-starred restaurants, interior design firms, and private clients around the world.

 

Liu is a furniture designer with multicultural background. She holds a MFA in furniture design and fine woodworking from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She experienced the lasting influence of the Studio Furniture Movement, which shaped a unique part of the current furniture environment. Liu studied in Copenhagen, Denmark, experienced the rich Scandinavian design culture and modern manufacturing scale. Growing up in Beijing shaped her understanding of traditional craft.

 

Liu's designs have appeared in elite magazines and publications worldwide, including New York Times, Architectural Digest, Christie’s, Interior Design, Elle Decor, Dwell, Monocle, Azure, Metropolis, Bon Appétit, Design Anthology, Sight Unseen, Dezeen, and "Design in Asia: The New Wave" published by Thames & Hudson. Her awards include the ICFF Editors Awards, NYC X DESIGN Awards, and European Product Design Award.
