Bowen Liu founded her studio in New York City in 2017. Liu creates artistic furniture collections that imbue with a sense of tranquility. Her design is often packed with thoughtful considerations and distilled to a minimal and clean appearance. Focus on intelligent simplicity and crafts to produce collectible designs and functional art for contemporary living.
Liu has a multicultural background in furniture design and woodworking. She has a Master of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She experienced the lasting influence of the American Studio Furniture Movement, which shaped a unique part of the current American furniture environment. She also studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, and experienced the rich Scandinavian design culture, tradition, and modern manufacturing scale. Grew up in Beijing, Liu appreciates the history of the crafts in Eastern culture.
Liu's designs have appeared in elite magazines and publications worldwide, including New York Times, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Elle Decor, Dwell, Azure, Metropolis, Monocle, Christie’s International Real Estate, Bon Appétit, Design Anthology, Sight Unseen, Dezeen.com, and "Design in Asia: The New Wave" published by Thames & Hudson. Her awards include the ICFF Editors Awards, NYC X DESIGN Awards, and European Product Design Award.
